Colin Van Ostern, Former Executive Councilors Endorse Dr. Tom Sherman

Former Executive Councilors Colin Van Ostern, Debora Pignatelli, and Dudley Dudley Endorse Dr. Tom Sherman After Council Votes Down Family Planning Contracts

After Sununu’s executive council voted to once again defund family planning contracts earlier this week, Dr. Tom Sherman is announcing the endorsement of former Executive Councilor Colin Van Ostern, former Executive Councilor Debora Pignatelli, and the first woman to serve on the Executive Council, Dudley Dudley. Sununu said he doesn’t see the votes against funding for birth control and cancer screenings as a reason not to support the Executive Councilors for re-election.

Van Ostern was the 2016 Democratic gubernatorial nominee and served with Chris Sununu on the Executive Council when Sununu cast the “deciding vote” to defund Planned Parenthood. Because of Sununu’s vote, Planned Parenthood had to cut STI testing services and patients endured weeks-long waits.Yesterday Dr. Sherman was endorsed by the Planned Parenthood NH Action Fund PAC.

“Opposing basic community services like birth control and cancer screenings is political extremism that does not reflect the values of NH citizens,” said former Executive Councilor Colin Van Ostern. “We need to elect Dr. Tom Sherman for Governor this fall — because he will never treat women’s rights like a political bargaining chip the way our current Governor did when he voted against these same contracts himself back on the Executive Council, or when he helped these very Executive Councilors get elected.”

“As the first woman to serve on the executive council,  I find it heartbreaking that same council is now refusing to support women’s healthcare,” said former Executive Councilor Dudley Dudley. “I’m endorsing Dr. Tom Sherman because I know he’ll advocate for women’s healthcare. He’ll advocate to expand our energy sources and lower costs, and to protect our public schools. We can’t afford to allow Chris Sununu another two years to cater to extremists.”

“From my time on the Executive Council, I know exactly how important a role it plays in our state.  It’s disgraceful that the current Executive Council and Governor repeatedly take health care choices away from the women of New Hampshire,” said former Executive Councilor Debora Pignatelli. “I’m happy to endorse Tom Sherman as a governor we can trust to stand up for reproductive rights.”
